Steven R. Cook (M. Div.)
Steven R. Cook is the author The Christian Life which is a study of biblical spirituality, and The Cross of Christ which is a study on the sufficiency of the cross for salvation.
The cross is God's righteous solution to the problem of sin, as well as His greatest display of love toward sinners. Law and grace, life and death, as well as time and eternity all intersect at the cross; displaying a divine wisdom that staggers the imagination and leads the humble heart to bow in thankful adoration. To understand the cross of Christ is to understand the heart of God toward a fallen world He wants to save. The cross of Christ "is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" (1 Cor. 1:18).
Spirituality is the life the Christian enjoys when he's properly living in dependence upon the Holy Spirit and walking according to Scripture. After salvation, the Christian's mind is not suddenly filled with biblical wisdom, but must be filled with the light of God's Word through personal study so that he is able to grow spiritually. Just as hearing the gospel and believing in Christ was necessary for salvation, so learning Scripture and walking in dependence upon the Holy Spirit is necessary for spiritual growth. God has blessed the Christian with all that is necessary to live the spiritual life, but ignorance must give way to the light of God's Scriptural revelation before the spiritual walk can begin. As the believer grows spiritually, God will develop the mind and character of Christ in him. This work explains the basics of the Christian spiritual life.
